At the end of the Artistic Meetings organized by Carré sur Seine – which take place once a year and which allow hundreds of artists to have an interview with several professionals from the contemporary art world – thirteen finalists were selected to present their work and the fruit of their research during an exhibition which presents itself as an updated showcase.
The first of the ideas that motivated us concerns the notion of visibility. The exhibition aims to be a transmission belt, an active, accelerating, dynamic device. It is addressed both to the public (to excite, to bring something new) and to the artist (to ensure that visibility is not a formality but something that challenges their work).
Regarding the selection of artists, singularity was a criterion, especially since the structuring of the art world tends to standardize practices. It is a paradox: in a globalized art world, where information, ideas and images circulate everywhere and are reformed instantly, the search for original universes, for sincere, original or dialectal practices, has become a imperative.
